SUCCESSFUL 2017 SEASON AT STCC

Scunthorpe Town CC had their presentation to celebrate a successful season where the 1st team won the Lincolnshire Premier League title and the 2nd team gained promotion into the 1st division.

Karanjit Bansal coming back to his hometown club as Captain and Head Coach was a major coup for the club and he led the 1st team to a brilliant title winning season. With this title STCC have been promoted into the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League for the first time in the club’s history.

There were some real stand out performances throughout the season in particular Danny Cliffe who took 59 wickets which included seven 5 wicket hauls. He has been a fantastic signing for the club and played a major role in winning the league. Captain Karanjit Bansal also scored a couple of centuries including a top score of 152. This saw him finish with 424 runs at an average of 53. Ramesh Chand was brilliant as ever, his all-round performances were a class above showing what a special player he is still. Everyone contributed to this league win which makes it all the more special. The whole team deserves a lot of credit for their hard work, dedication, desire and commitment. Deserved champions. Next season we go against the best teams in Lincolnshire and it will be a massive test but one we are very much looking forward too.

Scunthorpe Town CC 2nd XI led by Simon Leek, gained promotion to the 1st Division of the Lincolnshire League after finishing 2nd in the league. This was after an amazing finish to snatch the promotion place on the last day of the season.

Standout performances in particular from Daniel Peacock. He picked up 34 wickets at an average of 6.15. Next season in Division 1 will see a lot tougher challenge but with the youngsters coming through we believe we can really make a good go of trying to gain promotion to the Premier Division.

Scunthorpe Town CC 3rd XI have been excellent in bringing the younger generation through into senior cricket. They have not conceded a game all season, which is a major achievement for a club running three senior sides on a Saturday. It has seen some of the younger players come through and make their debuts in senior cricket. Some have got a taste of what it’s like to be on the field. This is a very important team for us as it's the base of getting the younger one’s ready for senior cricket. Their efforts have been amazing and we hope to see more coming through and more success for next season. Legend of the club Jon Jacklin had a fantastic season as he rolled back the years in some matches finishing up with 259 runs.

The juniors had a fantastic season too. The U/11s were League and Cup runners up. The U/13s were League runners up and got to the Semi-Final of the Cup before unfortunately being knocked out in a bowl out.

There are some seriously talented players coming through and we are looking to work with them and developing them as best as possible. We want to build from the base up and build a strong junior set up so that in the future the senior side takes care of itself.

Year 1 into our project we have made some great strides. Within our junior ranks we have county representatives. Lucy Bailey has been selected for the Lincolnshire U/13s girls side. The super talented all rounder Tom Giles is in the Lincolnshire U/12s squad. Finally the explosive batting all rounder Ben Conroy has been selected for Lincolnshire U/14s. Its amazing to see our juniors being recognised for county honours and just proves their hard work is paying off.

Also to mention our head coach Karanjit Bansal has been appointed onto the coaching staff at Lincolnshire County Cricket Board. It’s a great achievement for him and for the club. We have a couple of players moving into senior cricket next season. One is Ben Conroy, the other is the talented all rounder Ben Crew.

It’s a very exciting time at STCC. From top to bottom the club is building and heading in the right direction and the atmosphere is superb. Year 1 into our project has been brilliant. We are very much looking forward to year 2. The preparation for the 2018 season is well and truly underway.
